The Laboratório de Virologia Comparada (LVC) is a regional reference center for the diagnosis of rotaviruses from brazilian Ministry of Health. Commanded by PhD. José Paulo Gagliardi Leite is located in Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC) of the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), that is one of the main centers of research in the area of the Health in Brazil and Latin America. The laboratory is composed by qualified professionals with especific formation (Pos-doctoral experts, Doctors, Masters and technicians) and contribute for the Virology development.The team is involved in perform research, technological progress , innovation & human resources formation related to comparative studies of gatroenteritis virus & another complaints for Public Health, animal sanitation & environmental impact. |

| Role in the project | |
We will make the cloning of the genes of proteins VP4, VP6, VP7 and NSP4 of human Rotavirus of genotypes G1P8 (Wa) and G2P4 (DS-1). This cloning will be made with the TOPO TA cloning - PCR 2.1 kit. We will desing primers to amplify the genes completely. The plasmid will be analyzed by sequencing to verify the presence and orientation of the insert. This is an initial stage of the project which is fundamental to the others partners to use the previously described products, in the other phases of the project. |

Dr. José Paulo Gagliardi Leite has graduation in Farmácia and Bioquímica by Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro-UFRJ (1979). He is master in Biologia Parasitária by Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (1983), doctor in Biochimie by Université DES Sciences Et Technique Lille Flandres Artois (1988) and PhD by Centers of Disease Control And Prevention (1995). Currently he is titular researcher of the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz and researcher level 1B of the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq). He is a Virology expert and has experience on microbiology area, with emphasis in Biology & Physiology of Microorganism. Acting principally on the the next themes : Rotavirus, Norovirus, Astrovirus, Adenovirus, molecular and cell Biology. |
