Universidad de la Republica

Presentation
The Virology Section of the University of Republic (Uruguay) is a well equipped and experienced laboratory for modern research in virology and molecular biology. The main thematics are cloning and expresion of genes using viral vectors as HSV and baculovirus, the variability and evolution of RNA virus (respiratory syncitial virus, rotavirus) and the study of emergent virus (arbovirus, hantavirus, influenza virus).
The members of the staff are: Dr. Juan Arbiza who is the head professor of the group, 3 assistant professors, 5 post degree student, 9 degree students and 1 technical assistant.

Role in the project
Our team is responsible for the construction of HSV-1 vectors expressing mouse rotavirus proteins. We will perform the cloning and modification of mouse rotavirus antigen-encoding genes, the analysis of rotavirus antigens expressed from HSV-1-based virus vaccines in cell culture and we will participate in the evaluation of immune responses elicited by these vectors in mice.
